SOLD - Antique 18ct Gold Bacchante Classical Cameo Brooch, Signed by Carver
A stunning, Victorian shell Cameo depicting a Bacchante mounted in an 18ct gold collet setting framed with a tiered gold engraved decorative edge. Its generous size, along with the intricate detailing of the carving make this brooch a fantastic statement piece, and a highly collectable antique.
Complete with T-bar & C-clasp fitting (can easily adapt to a pendant so that it can be worn as either a brooch or pendant).
The brooch has a faint signature of the carver verso (please see images).
In Greek mythology, maenads (Bacchantes) were the female followers of Dionysus (the God of wine). The cameo is intricately carved and depicts a bacchante adorned with fruit & foliage dressed in fine robes.

Measurements: 35 x 37.5mm
Condition: Good - there looks to be a hair line crack on the top right, this is the grain of the cameo (it is not surface reaching).
