Antique Gold 'Goddess Demeter' Cameo Brooch



A fantastic, Victorian cameo brooch depicting the Goddess Demeter mounted in a gold collet setting with rope edge. It is generous in size, along with the intricate detailing of the carving make this brooch a fantastic statement piece, and a highly collectable antique.  The carving is crisp and shows the profile of Demeter with a scythe and donning a wheat headdress.

In Greek mythology, Demeter was the ancient Greek goddess of Harvest.  She taught humans how to plant, plough & nurture the earth to provide food.  Her Roman name was Ceres, which is where the word 'cereal' comes from.
