Edwardian, 15ct Gold, Diamond Swallow/Bird Brooch

Edwardian, 15ct Gold, Diamond Swallow/Bird Brooch

An exquisite Edwardian piece featuring a charming swallow mounted on a knife edged bar brooch with a pearl terminal.
The swallow is studded with thirteen, twinkly old-cut (cushion & rose-cut) diamonds and embellished with two tiny ruby eyes. All beautifully set in silver and mounted on a 15ct gold bar with a 4mm pearl.

Swallows were a popular motif used in Victorian times and were often given as a token of love, often from someone who was travelling or going to war. The swallow is the first bird that is seen from a ship as it returns to land. The swallow represents a loved one returning safely home. So the brooch would mean I will return to you and we will be together, forever! Diamonds represent 'Eternal Love' , Rubies represent Passion & Pearls for purity.
