Edwardian Citrine & Natural Pearl Fringe Necklace On 9ct Rose Gold Clasp
Beautifully made during the late Victorian, early Edwardian period. This exquisite, antique necklace features a delicate row of natural saltwater pearls, individually drilled and hand strung onto an 9ct rose gold barrel clasp. Suspended at 2.5cm intervals are a row of fifteen, graduated, faceted Citrine gemstones, connected with fine pieces of gold wire.
The largest citrine measures 10.5 x 13.5mm and the smallest 6x7mm. The are a gorgeous golden yellow cognac colour.
This stunning necklace would have graced the neck of a young Edwardian lady as she waltzed across the dance floor, the Citrine "en tremblant" (moving in a trembling style) sparkling & shimmering in the light of the chandeliers.
The Citrine captures the light with its many facets & its glorious shades of golden yellow.
Tiny natural pearls from India were used extensively in antique Jewellery. Many of the pearls used were from the Pinctada radiata oyster found in the Persian Gulf, the Red seas and Sri Lanka.
