SOLD - Victorian 9ct Gold back & front, hair locket


A precious, round Victorian locket, engraved with a foliate leaf design on the front together with a cartouche (for engraving) and a flower & leaf design on the back. This sentimental lockets holds in its interior, intricately plaited brunette hair. The clasp closes securely and the locket is in good antique condition.

9ct "back and front" refers to a locket made with a layer of 9ct gold on both the front and back, with a non-gold metal in between. Usually the inside rim, the hinge and the removable frame are made from a gold plated metal. This was used for durability and strength.
