Antique Georgian Marie Antoinette Portrait Brooch
A captivating Georgian brooch, richly detailed and steeped in history, featuring a finely hand painted portrait of Marie Antoinette beneath a glazed panel.
The miniature depicts the queen in highly fashionable attire of the era, wearing an elegant aigrette plume hairpiece with a soft veil, a delicate two-row pearl necklace, and a beautifully rendered duck egg blue dress, a colour much favoured during the period. The portrait captures both refinement and romanticism, echoing the enduring fascination with her image.
Encircling the portrait is a luminous halo of tiny natural seed pearls, meticulously set to enhance the softness and radiance of the piece. At the top, a decorative floral motif adds a graceful finishing touch, typical of Georgian craftsmanship.
The reverse reveals a closed back setting with a gilded finish over silver, preserving the warmth of the piece. It is fitted with a traditional T-bar pin and C-clasp, with two hallmarks stamped to the clasp (boars head and Makers mark), details often associated with French jewellery of the time.
A rare beauty, this historic brooch is in very good condition.
