SOLD - Victorian Egyptian Revival Scarab Beetle Stick Pin in pinchbeck
Circa 1890 this fantastic stick pin features a genuine scarab beetle set in a rope detailed frame and mounted onto a barley twist pin.
The scarab beetle is a good size and displays a mesmerising green iridescence with deep reds. To the back of the pin, the underneath of the beetle is visible and perfectly preserved with antennae and legs intact.
A highly collectable piece, this pin is in a good antique condition. There is a tiny hole near the top of the beetle, however this is not noticeable when worn.
The scarab beetle, particularly in ancient Egyptian culture, symbolizes regeneration, transformation, and protection. The beetle’s life cycle, particularly its habit of rolling dung balls, was associated with the sun god Ra, representing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Scarabs were often used as amulets and burial items, believed to provide protection in the afterlife and ensure a safe passage. They embody the idea of renewal and the eternal nature of the soul.
