A fantastic piece of history, this bar brooch features a handsome canine who has been meticulously hand-painted on a circular enamel plaque. The miniature has been set into an open-backed 9ct gold collet, rope setting and mounted on a bar brooch.
Hand signed on the reverse of the plaque is 'W B Ford 1875'.

William Bishop Ford (1832-1922) was born in London 3 May, 1832, the son of Michael and Agnes Ford.
He was a student of William Essex who was famous for his dog enamels.

Measurements: 22.5 x 63mm
Hallmarks:  Not hallmarked, but tested as 9carat gold and signed by maker (see above).

Condition: Good antique condition, some fine scratches on the enamel (visible only with a jeweller's loupe)
