Victorian Natural Coral Beaded Necklace on 9ct rose gold clasp

A pretty, antique coral necklace, with a row of graduated natural coral beads, the central bead measures 5mm and graduates down to 3mm. All beautifully hand-strung onto a 9ct rose gold barrel clasp fitting. The coral are a deep salmon-orange in colour (the natural grain is visible in the enlarged images.)

Romans adorned their Children in Coral as they believed it to protect them from harm. Historically Coral has been a popular choice for Christening presents (early 17th century portraits of children are shown wearing a simple row of coral beads).  Coral remained popular throughout the Victorian, Edwardian period.
