SOLD - Victorian Salmon Red Coral Necklace on Gold Barrel Clasp



A pretty, antique coral necklace, with a row of graduated natural coral beads, the central bead measures 6x7mm and graduates down to 3.5mm. All beautifully hand-strung onto a 9ct gold barrel clasp fitting. The coral are a deep salmon-orange in colour (the natural grain is visible in the enlarged images.)

Romans adorned their Children in Coral as they believed it to protect them from harm. Historically Coral has been a popular choice for Christening presents (early 17th century portraits of children are shown wearing a simple row of coral beads).  Coral remained popular throughout the Victorian, Edwardian period.
