A fine, Victorian Cameo of a Bacchante mounted in a 9ct rose gold collet setting decorated with gold rope. The finely carved, high relief cameo measures 42.5 x 48.5 with a depth of 16mm.
In Greek mythology, maenads (Bacchantes) were the female followers of Dionysus (the God of wine). The portrait faces left making this cameo more unusual then the more commonly carved portraits facing the right!
Complete with T-bar & C-clasp fitting (can easily adapt to a pendant so that it can be worn as either a brooch or pendant).
There are numbers 915 marked on the reverse of the Cameo
