A pretty example from the 'belle epoque' (beautiful age) era. This exquisite brooch is skilfully made in 14ct yellow and white gold, known as a “Giardinetti” (“little gardens”) brooch, it is intricately designed with eight, rose-cut diamonds and three sea pearls depicting flowers and foliage in a basket mounted on a white gold frame.Believed to be french, this fine brooch measures 14.5 x 34mm..
Complete with overlocking, secure clasp.Giardinetti brooches.
The Italian word "Giardinetti" was used from the late 17th century onwards to describe articles of jewellery designed with an intricate, openwork floral motif, consisting of gemstones mounted to resemble flowers & foliage arranged in vases or baskets.
