SOLD - Victorian Natural dark red Salmon Coral Bead Necklace


Antique, Victorian Coral beaded necklace, with a row of hand cut rondelle beads, with the largest bead measuring 6mm and the smallest 4mm, hand strung onto a gold metal bolt ring clasp fitting.
Horse hair was used for restringing antique necklaces, this coral necklace has the original horse hair ! it is an extra long row and may well have been worn as a muff chain.
The coral is a lovely deep salmon red colour, you can see the natural grain in the close up images

Romans adorned their Children in Coral to protect them from harm. Historically Coral has been a popular choice for Christening presents (early 17th century portraits of children are shown wearing a simple row of coral beads). Coral remained popular throughout the Victorian, Edwardian period.
